Subject: What health care coverage does a congressman have? What happens to it when they leave office?
Question: America faces a health care crisis. How can Congress or the Senate much care if they have top notch health care coverage and the taxpayers pay for it?
Answer: They have a 100 percent covered plan for them and their families for life (assuming they serve at least 6 years), along with an excellent pension plan for life. They will care about the crisis if it is something the voters want! After all, if they are not acting in the interest of the voters, they will lose their seat and their health care plan. Unfortunately, there is so much disagreement between the "left" and the "right" that it is difficult for congress to do anything. In addition, many people (even those who truly need health care reforms) vote based on moral values, leaving health care to be ignored.

Answer: A. Public health looks at everyone from all over. We (I'm an epidemiologist) are concerned with things that may be coming down the pike and hit all of us (like bird flu, etc.). Community health mostly involves doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals that tailor interventions to a particular community's needs, and they generally don't plan out for "the bigger picture", although they do a heck a job in their locales, since they know it better.

Subject: What health care problem should I address in a statistics assignment?
Question: I have to make a power point about a health care problem for a statistics class and include a frequency table, which means I need actual numbers, not percentages as most statistic information is portrayed. Does anyone know what would be a good health-related topic where I could find actual numbers easily? Or any good websites for health-related data?
Answer: The Robert Woods Johnson Foundation is a research think tank. They have all kinds of references to interesting research around health care and health reform. With a little digging, you may be able to contact some of the researchers. WebMD is another useful source for anything and everything health care. Subject: What are the health benefits of drinking black tea?
Question: What are the health benefits of drinking black tea? Is it OK to put milk or half and half/light cream in it? Also how many cups of black tea should be consumed in a day to get the benefits from drinking black tea? Would one cup be enough?
Answer: The health benefits of black tea have been well documented for quite some time, and if you are thinking of adding more black tea to your diet, then its health benefits likely have played a big part in your decision. The big difference between black tea and other types of tea, like white and green tea, is that it is more oxidized. As a result of this increased oxidation, black tea is a lot more flavorful and caffeine-laden than its counterparts which do not enjoy this amount of oxidation. Another difference is that the flavor of black tea is retained for quite a while longer - sometimes, up to several years longer - than the flavor among other teas. Here are three health benefits to drinking black tea: 1. Very Low in Sodium, Fat and Calories Provided that you drink black tea that is pure and plain, and without the addition of sweeteners, you are drinking a tea that is ultra low in sodium, fat and calories. This property of black tea is advantageous for people who want to lose weight or even just control their weight. In essence, if you merely substitute the intake of other kinds of beverages like unhealthy soda drinks with black tea, you are already doing your body a great favor in sparing it the intake of weight gain causing calories. Furthermore, if you drink more black tea in place of other beverages that contain higher amounts of sodium and fat, you are helping your body become more healthy. Too much sodium is linked with all kinds of lethal conditions and diseases, while too much fat amounts to the same thing. 2. Reduce Cardiovascular Problems Certain studies over the years have established that there is a direct relationship between increased black tea consumption and a decrease in cardiovascular disease. In 2001, Boston University found in a study that both short-term as well as long-term drinking of black tea actually reverses something called endothelial vasomotor dysfunction in patients with coronary artery disease. This is a dysfunction which basically serves as a predictor for even more serious coronary events. The conclusions in the study backed up a previously held link between black tea and its propensity to lower cardiovascular problems. 3. Bountiful in Antioxidants Another benefit of drinking black tea is a sizeable one: the abundance of antioxidants in it. Black tea is made from the camellia tea plant. The great benefit of this tea plant is that it comes with a plethora of the group of chemical substances known as polyphenol. These substances are one type of antioxidant, and antioxidants have been found to help in everything from the treatment of brain injury cases to treatments against hearing loss and also, potentially, Parkinson's disease. They are, however, no longer thought to significantly help fight diseases like cancer as they once were thought to.

Subject: What is more just: rationing health care based upon bureaucratic decisions or ability to pay?
Question: Both socialzed and free market health care ration health care. In socialized health care, care is rationed based upon bureaucratic decisions. In "free market" health care, care is rationed based upon the ability of the person to pay. Which is more just? Which is more just for a child?
Answer: Depends on the perspective. The "socialized" (please use in quotation marks) perspective is that users of health care are the community as a whole; thus, 'just' is defined as minimizing the losing individuals. "Free market's" views are that the users are individuals or groups of individuals; thus, 'just' is defined as maximizing the number of individuals 'satisfied.' From both common political and ethical perspective, a child is often unable to contribute to the discussion of 'individuals to be lost' in "socialized health care" or 'user satisfaction' in the "free market." Given the assumptions that pediatric care is satisfactory for most children, "socialized health care" is more just because the intrinsic cost-of-life-saved would then be higher even though some children would fall through the cracks. HOWEVER, given the assumption above and also that the income difference between the richest and poorest people is minimal, the "free market" is more just because parents can decide what is most 'satisfactory' without too much undue financial burden.

Subject: What are the health benefits to becoming a vegetarian?
Question: Also what are the health disadvantages of becoming a vegetarian? I've tried to go vegetarian before but my parents wont let me because they think it's unhealthy :(
Answer: Hey, you do know that there are many different types of vegetarians right? Try searching up on them, and choose the one that suits you. Animal products are the only source of cholesterol. A big health benefit is that since they don't have all that rotting meat in their stomachs and cholesterol and saturated fat, vegetarians have an extremely low chance of getting diabetes and heart disease. Also, when I went vegetarian (now vegan) my skin started feeling better, and I started sleeping deeper. I don't know if this will happen to you too though. Disadvantages? Well, if you practically live off french fries, you're not going to be a very healthy vegetarian. You need to have a well planned diet, and do a lot of research to find out how much calcium/protein/vitamins your body needs every day, and work hard to meet it. You need to eat a variety of foods to make sure you're getting all of your nutrients. If you don't plan out your diet, you may start to get weaker, and lose weight, and muscle mass. Trust me, you don't want to do this. Bad, bad, bad. When I think of more advantages or disadvantages, I'll come edit.

Answer: A "health care program" is usually a maintenance program - it doesn't usually cover "major medical" issues, such as you coming down with cancer. But you'll have to read the fine print on the program itself, to see what is and is not covered. THEN you have to figure out which doctors work in the program, and how long/hard it is to get in to see them.

Subject: What health concerns should one be worried about when traveling to Hawaii?
Question: We would not have any kind health insurance to cover any thing that would arise. The work we will be doing will be strictly volunteer.
Answer: Are you traveling from the continental US? If so, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about. I've visited Hawaii several times and never had to worry about my health. The tourist industry is huge, and there are lots of military personnel traveling back and forth so most diseases or illnesses on islands or mainland travel back and forth. You won't be exposed to anything new.

Subject: Is there a good health insurance for college students?
Question: I am a sophomore in college and have not had health or dental insurance since I was a little girl. I can't be on my mom's insurance cause the price will sky rocket. I have a part time job so I don't get health benefits at work. Is there some type of health insurance that has good coverage but also doesn't cost too much since I don't make too much?
Answer: In some states, there is no "health insurance that ... doesn't cost too much", period. In some states, all health insurance, for everyone, costs "too much". In other states, there is health insurance for someone your age that does not cost too much. However, it is not specifically for college students; it is for anyone your age who lives there and meets the medical criteria, whether or not they are a college student. Finally, some, but not all, colleges offer their own insurance, which may or may not "cost too much", depending on what that particular college offers. There is good health insurance for college students who attend colleges with good health insurance or live in states with good health insurance. There is not good health insurance for college students who attend colleges without good health insurance and live in states without good health insurance. Try asking this again with the name of the state where you live, the name of the college, and your age.

Answer: You don't say what country you are in, your age, or anything much else. It doesn't matter what these are called. You have to compare: What doctors you can see (any doctor? one in their network?) What kind of doctor you can see (do you have to go to a primary care physician first, before you can see a specialist?) Whether hospitalization is covered What is the deductible (the amount out of pocket before they pay anything each year) What is the co-pay (the amount you pay each time you use the insurance) How likely are you to use the benefits? Then make up a situation - you fall off a bike and break your arm, or you catch something serious. Figure out how you will benefit from each plan.
